On February 3rd a train carrying hazardous material crashed outside East Palestine Ohio, creating a dangerous environment for the people living in that town. Politicians have been quick to jump in and point fingers, the train company began an immediate campaign to avoid liability, and the residents are fighting to get their health insurance to cover their many medical needs. The crash has caused countless questions about the legality of the incident, but what about the morality? Do our legal structures uphold our moral values? Were they meant to?
The word love is like a bucket of many other big words. What is it really? And what’s love got to do with anything? Is it really the superglue that makes everything work? I’ve worked with impassioned leaders and some of them were even dogmatic and perhaps you could say ideological. But the best changemakers and agents of good have always been those who have the ability to change their minds, to be loved and cared for by others, and to make space for trusting the good in others. This Sunday UUCF will join other area congregations to celebrate Pride in Detroit! We will all gather for a celebratory Sunday Service and then go march in the Detroit Pride parade.
