Our annual Earth Day Service connects us with the earth and those with whom we share the planet. Come listen to Geno Gresham, a representative of Greening of Detroit, share about the work they do to "enhance the quality of life for Detroiters by planting trees, repurposing the land to create beautiful and productive green spaces and helping communities rebuild their neighborhoods one lot at a time."
Dennis invites us to explore the science of how humans perceive the world differently from animals and from other humans. We participate in a fun chemistry experiment and find many examples from a new book called “An Immense World” by Ed Yong (2022) to discover that what we thought we knew from our senses just ain’t necessarily so! The implications are vast and amazing as we progress through the mathematics of infinity, examples of perception among animals, and challenges to popular beliefs. From this new perspective we get fresh insights of the principles of Unitarian Universalism: search for Truth, worthiness…
Jaike SpottedWolf will be speaking about how we can break cycles of Indigenous erasure and how we can invite principals of First Peoples back into mainstream culture. We will learn how harmful colonization has been to sovereign nations in Turtle Island and how those themes also harm non-Native, settler descendants.
This interactive multigenerational Sunday Service will have opportunities for creating, connecting and practicing resilience in community. Through crafting and sharing we will create community together.
