Service has been cancelled due to weather conditions. The congregation of Birmingham Unitarian Church (38651 Woodward Avenue, Bloomfield Hills) invites the congregations of First UU Church of Detroit, Northwest UU Church, and UU Church of Farmington to celebrate the harvests of our lives as we break bread together. If you can, please bring a loaf or batch or other form of bread (pita? tortillas? bagels?) representing your heritage in whatever way you choose, and an accompaniment such as cheese, hummus, jam, or fruit. During the service in the sanctuary we'll symbolically share the bread, and after the service during coffee…
We will spend some time uplifting stories about trans people from human history. We may enjoy some speculative history together about what indigenous trans people were doing in their communities before colonialism brought fear of anything outside of the binary (engaging with our imagination!). We will read names of trans people who have passed and do some grieving practices together.
"Do Not Leave Your Cares at the Door" is one of our beliefs in our pluralistic faith community. This year has been really traumatic and we know the coming years will continue to be so. Drawing on the research of trauma informed care, we will explore tools for sitting in discomfort during ongoing scary times. All of who you are, even the scared parts, are welcome here.
Join us for a Service Sunday. We'll gather in Adams Hall to pack safe birth kits for Global Health Services to distribute around the world. Join us for this fun and lifesaving activity that all ages can participate in!
This multigen Sunday Service will explore how we can experience gratitude through out the day, from sunup to sundown. Opportunities for gratitude are everywhere!
This All Souls Day Service includes space for grief, joy, and remembrance of those who have died this past year and honoring of our ancestors long passed. Please bring pictures or mementos of your loved ones to place on the altar.
Guest speaker Dessa Cosma is the founding director of Detroit Disability Power. She will talk about her experience as a disabled social justice organizer and share intersectional disability justice practices that you can use!
Coming out requires compassion for ourselves and others. Whether you’re coming out as a GLBTQ person or as an ally, come celebrate the joy of living authentic lives.
One way we cultivate compassion, our theme for October, is building our empathy skills. At this multigen Service, through interaction and dialogue we will imagine what it means to walk in the shoes of another.
