Be a Good Stranger

Sarah Flynn joins us this Sunday morning with her presentation on being a good stranger. Her central theme will be showing kindness in situations where one’s first inclination might be to shut down or run away. In three short stories from her road life: a car accident in California, meeting a homeless couple in Montana, and participating in community safety in Colorado, she will highlight how strangers have helped her and how she has tried to pay it forward.

Invitation to Immensity

Dennis invites us to explore the science of how humans perceive the world differently from animals and from other humans. We participate in a fun chemistry experiment and find many examples from a new book called “An Immense World” by Ed Yong (2022) to discover that what we thought we knew from our senses just ain’t necessarily so! Flower Communion Sunday!

Celebrate 100 years of the Flower Ceremony! The first flower ceremony was held in Prague, in 1923, led by Rev. Norbert Capek. For decades this beloved tradition and its powerful history have provided meaning to hundreds of UU congregations. Come participate in this ritual that celebrates community and the beauty we create together. *** Everyone is encouraged to bring cut flowers to place on a table in the front of the Meeting House.

On February 3rd a train carrying hazardous material crashed outside East Palestine Ohio, creating a dangerous environment for the people living in that town. Politicians have been quick to jump in and point fingers, the train company began an immediate campaign to avoid liability, and the residents are fighting to get their health insurance to cover their many medical needs. The crash has caused countless questions about the legality of the incident, but what about the morality? Do our legal structures uphold our moral values? Were they meant to?
