At the General Assembly (GA) in 2017 there was discussion of adding an 8th Principle, specifically to address racism in our congregations. At this service our speaker will explain more about the 8th Principle and Article II revisions and share why as a lifelong UU, Director of Religious Education and a UU consultant she supports them both. Article II will be introduced at this year’s GA, if it receives a simple majority, the final vote on Article II will be carried to GA 2024.
Sharing our own life story, and listening to others’, is an important tool. This Sunday, we are going to have discussion groups focused on stories and storytelling with opportunities to write and share with each other.
Nonviolent Communication (NVC) or Compassionate Communication is a method of connecting with others in a structured way that can improve our interactions, which brings forth greater compassion and peace. This week we will focus on noticing how our judgments can cloud connection and we will learn ways of observing the world around us, changing our perspectives and understanding.
What would it look like to be pre-welcoming of people we haven’t yet met? In the UU world right now there is discussion of a new concept, “Preemptive Radical Inclusion.” In this service we will consider what hospitality and welcoming looks like – and feels like – for people we haven’t yet imagined.
