1. What do you believe?
At UUCF we believe in the seven UU Principles and strive to support each other to live by these principles.
2. Do I need to dress up on Sundays?
Some people like to dress up for church on Sundays and others like to come in jeans, t-shirts or whatever else they are comfortable in. Really it's great because you can basically dress however you feel!
3. How many people go to this church?
We have approximately 225 members but normally we have around 80 - 90 people in each of our 2 services on Sunday. Ofcourse that varies from week to week and might be higher on "intergenerational" weeks where the children stay in service.
4. What kinds of children's programs do you have?
Providing rich programs for our children and teenagers is a high priority at UUCF. In fact, to many people, it is the most important part of our church. So with a professional Director of Religious Education and a full RE Committee we have wonderful programs for children to participate in on Sundays. The RE Program is designed to encourage each child to develop as a responsible person and to provide a safe nurturing environment where our children feel comfortable learning and growing. We also offer special programs outside of the regular Sunday morning classes, such as "Coming of Age" for teenagers and "Our Whole Lives" (OWL) which is specifically targetted at young teens to help prepare them for the many challenges they will be facing as teenagers. You will probably meet many adults at UUCF who say the reason they joined our church was to get their children into the RE Program. Then of course they probably stayed after their kids grew up too!
5. Do you have a minister?
Yes! Alexander Reigel is our minister and joined us in 2001. Reverend Reigel is a graduate of Harvard Divinity School and has been a minister for over 18 years.
6. Are the people friendly?
Yes! Join us for coffee after each service on Sundays and we'd love to meet you! We also have lots of great opportunities to socialize outside of church too, with a wide variety of interest group activities, as well as many other planned (or unplanned) social activities!
7. Do you have any adult RE Programs?
Yes! One of the most popular programs at UUCF is Lifelong Learning Forum which is a program that runs for 6-week sessions every Fall and Spring. The LLF committee puts it on and draws guest speakers from far and wide. Topics range from "The Five Love Languages" to String Theory , to Russian Politics to Hypnotherapy, to name just a few! Schedules are available to download from the website as well as in the Church office every Fall and Spring.
8. What kind of social activities do you have?
We have monthly Social Events planned activities which might include "Games Night", Bowling or some such thing; Men's group outings, Women's Friday night group, in addition to many potlucks, picnics, getting together to go to a play, the list goes on and on....
9. Do you have coffee hour every Sunday?
Of course we do!!!! We are UU's aren't we?!?
10. Is this a Welcoming Congregation?
Of course we are!
11. Why do you have two services?
Because our church is very popular and we need to have two services to fit all the people in the "Meeting House" and all the children in their Sunday School classes. You are welcome to come to either or both services! Some of us like to arrive early to the 2nd service so we can have coffee between services and meet with our friends that attended the early service. Great strategy to be sure you get a chance to see all your friends! Note: During summer months we go to one service per week. Please check the church calendar for the current schedule.
We hope this answered many of your questions but if you still have more, please come to a church service here and we'll be so happy to talk with you then. Or you can call our church office during the week with any questions.
